We’re thrilled to congratulate one of our community beneficiaries on their recent hat-trick trophy win!
The Hearts 56 Walking Football team have won Walking Football Scotland’s Over 50s National League for the third consecutive year.
The reigning Scottish champions, sponsored by Saltire Roofing & Building, scooped the silverware at the Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility, where they also picked up the annual Fair Play Award.
Finishing the season on 51 points, the Tynecastle side couldn’t wait to call the team at Saltire to tell us the good news.
Saltire Roofing & Building Managing Director Steven McIntosh said:
“We’re absolutely delighted to see the Hearts 56 team being crowned Scottish champions once again and we’re incredibly proud to play a part in their success by continuing to sponsor them. The Walking Football is a fantastic initiative in our local community and we hope to see even more people get involved in the year ahead.”
Walking Football is designed to help people keep or kick-start an active lifestyle regardless of their age, weight or health. As the name suggests, Walking Football is non-contact and only walking is allowed – no jogging, running or sprinting!
The game is played on a pitch 20/40 yards in length and 15/30 yards in width with the game restarted via a kick, roll or throw-in. By playing 1 hour a week for 3 months, it enables players to cover 30 miles and burn 4,200 calories!
